Office Location :
Room 9086, Department of Statistical Sciences, 700 University Ave, Toronto, ON M5G 1X6
Biography :
I am an assistant professor of Statistical Sciences. I also have a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy, and I am a faculty affiliate of the Schwartz Reisman Institute. Before joining the University of Toronto, I was an assistant professor at INSEAD, where I remain an occasional visitor, and a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology. I received my PhD from the University and Michigan, Ann Arbor, and my JD from Harvard Law School.
My primary research interests are twofold. I work on:
- Legal, ethical and policy dimensions of artificial intelligence and machine learning (including, for example, questions involving privacy, transparency, and bias of algorithmic systems); and,
- Foundational questions in Bayesian inference and decision making (including, for example, aggregating probabilities, selecting and checking models, and loss function optimality).
