The Department of Statistical Sciences is proud to announce that Professor Lisa Strug has been recognized as one of the winners of the 2024 Dean’s Research Excellence Awards. This award, now in its third year, is bestowed upon accomplished mid-career researchers and aims to bolster their presence in national award competitions.
Professor Strug is a pivotal figure in the Department of Statistical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science. She holds the role of Associate Director at The Centre for Applied Genomics at the Hospital for Sick Children, where her contributions extend into groundbreaking genetic research. Additionally, she leads as the Director of the Data Sciences Institute (DSI) and the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute Ontario Region, underscoring her leadership in advancing data-driven research methodologies.
Her work, which expertly bridges statistical sciences and genetic research, focuses on developing statistical methods to understand complex genetic patterns that influence human disease. This interdisciplinary approach not only enriches our scientific community but also paves the way for significant advancements in how we understand and treat complex diseases.
